The Society for the History of Medicine and Health Professions (SHMHP) invites submissions for its 2019 Research Grant. Grant proposals may address any aspect of the history of the health sciences in Arkansas. The award is open to researchers, historians, and anyone interested in the history of medicine and the health professions in Arkansas.
The winning applicant is presented a certificate and a check of up to $1,500 to assist with the expenses of carrying out research using the collections of the Historical Research Center at the UAMS Library. The completed project may also be considered for presentation at the annual dinner meeting of the Society for the History of Medicine and Health Professions.
Proposals should specify how the researcher intends to use materials in the HRC collections as well as comment on the historical significance of the research to be carried out.
The proposal must include:
Upon completion of the period of research at the HRC, the grant winner must submit a final report summarizing the research completed with the grant money. If the results of research funded by the grant are published in any media, two copies of the published product are required to be given to the Historical Research Center.
Grant money will be distributed in two payments. Half of the award will be distributed upon selection of the winning proposal. The recipient will receive the remainder of the grant money after the final report is received and accepted by the Society.
Winners will be required to sign a contract, prior to receiving the money, acknowledging the terms of the grant.
Upon submission, each application is reviewed by members of the SHMHP Research Grant Selection Committee.
The following guidelines are considered when the applications are evaluated by the reviewers:
