Workstations require log-in with UAMS domain account. If you are having problems with your login account, please contact the Help Desk at 501-686-8555. Computer work stations are located on all floors of the Library. Each station should have earphones attached, but feel free to use your personal set by plugging them into the outlet on the computer monitor. If you need assistance with getting the sound to work, call 686-5980 and speak with one of the Circulation staff or come to the Circulation desk located at the main entrance to the library.
Each workstation has Windows 7 with three web browsers supported by campus IT, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In the Quiet/Study East room located next to the student lounge area, all machines are installed with SPSS and SAS. This gives our users access to Backboard, Webmail, and other necessary web based applications as well as productivity tools. Each machine is able to send documents to Library printers. Our machines also have security software that prevents permanent changes from being made to keep these computers pristine and virus free. Be certain if you are downloading or creating documents to save them in the designated area! For more information about this check out the Technical Support guides.
Workstations for non-UAMS Library guests are provided on the first floor near the Education and Reference department. To use one of these public machines the user needs to sign in and have a library staff member login with the guest account. Station #2 has a flatbed scanner attached that can scan as a PDF file or and image file.
Wireless Internet access is available throughout the library. If you are a guest in the library you will connect to the UAMS Guest account from your device. When you open a browser window you should be prompted to enter your email address for verification on the UAMS Aruba network. Once the email is registered you will be able to access other sites on the web.
Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use the UAMS wireless account. When you connect you will be prompted to enter your domain credentials. After you are authenticated as part of UAMS internet access is available.
If you experience any problems connecting to the wireless network, please notify the staff at the Circulation desk. Library Technical Support will attempt to troubleshoot the problem first, but may refer this issue to Campus IT Support.
The Library printer/photocopies also function as scanners. There is no charge for this service.
How to scan in the Library:
Another scanning option in the library is the flatbed scanner located on the first floor attached to public station number 2. This scanner gives the user more capabilities such as increasing resolutions, scanning in color of grey scale, and the option to save the file as a PDF or JPEG. Files scanned from this location can either be saved to a USB drive or sent as an attachment in an email. Detailed instructions for using the scanner and saving options are available at the Circulation desk.
If you need assistance with any of our scanning equipment, please check with the staff at the
As technology has become mobile, so has the need for supporting these mobile devices. Many students regularly use laptops and iPads in the library for individual study or with a group. The library is equipped with large screen televisions in the Active Learning Center and in the group study rooms. To make it possible for our students to utilize these large screens the library provides HDMI cables that can be checked out. Connecting the HDMI cable to a laptop and the screen allows students to share information with a group. We also have adapters for iPads and older apple devices.
Need a quick charge for your phone, but forgot your cable? We have both Android and Apple charging stations available on first floor near the Watson room in the Active Learning Center, on second floor near the Administrative Office, and on third floor south in the Quiet/Study area.
