What is a Clinical Librarian?

Clinical Librarians provide services exclusively to the clinical departments in the hospital. Clinical Librarians generally round with one or more departments in the hospital to provide real-time education to residents and students on the use of medical literature resources and applying evidence-based principles.

Services Offered by the Clinical Librarians

Services Offered by the CSL

  • Morning Report - to provide review articles or a summary of the topic or questions that arise
  • Noon Conference - to present on literature searching, evidence-based practice, and/or research basics.
  • Patient Rounding - accompany the team on rounds to help answer point of care questions, assist residents and students in finding and using evidence-based information, and provide in-depth research on complex questions.

  • Assistance with scholarly projects, papers, or posters
  • Literature searching
  • Help with bibliographic software
  • Research on patient care topics


Services Offered to Faculty and Clinicians

  • Partnering with Faculty/Clinicians on presentations, publications, grant funding, and research.
  • Literature Searching - finding literature for basic articles, reviews, or systematic reviews.
  • Grant Assistance - finding literature to support grant funding.
  • Educational Sessions - covering specialized topics for faculty, residents, and/or students.
